Sep 02, 2019 · To configure VPN in the Mikrotik router board need to access the router via a winbox or web login. Connect Mikrotik router using LAN port and open in Winbox configuration utility. Use MikroTik default username admin and MikroTik default password not required and leave the password option blank. Having come from Cisco(15yrs+) and Juniper (2yrs+) to Mikrotik (6months+) I would have thought that establishing a basic back to back MPLS VPN between two routers using Loopbacks with a couple of "LAN" computers to simulate a station at each site would have been a no brainer, but after some time I have consider this feature of RouterOS faulty ! This is useful for BGP based MPLS VPNs. Unlike BGP VPLS, which is OSI Layer 2 technology, BGP VRF VPNs work in Layer 3 and as such exchange IP prefixes between routers. VRFs solve the problem of overlapping IP prefixes, and provide the required privacy (via separated routing for different VPNs). To create a VRF, configure it under /ip route vrf.
